I know I've closed myself off in a major way over the past year, ever since “the incident” where I messed up my life completely. It's past time I try to live again or just give up altogether. But this is quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever done. In a last ditch effort to invigorate myself, I'm standing outside Oren Tenning's bedroom, I just peeled off the sexiest pair of underwear I own, and my hand is already raised to knock. My brother would disown me for doing anything with his best friend, and he'd probably kill Oren. But if I play my cards right, no one will ever know about this. Not even Ten.

There were lots of things I loved about Last Hit, but I can't deny that Nikolai was my favorite. He's violent, blunt, and stoic... but he can also be the sweetest person. He's an amazing guy, and watching the greatness peek out for Daisy was fantastic. Plus, his inconsistent English endeared him to me super fast. I looooved it. It was like the icing on top of the cake for me. But for real, Nikolai is a badass sweetheart, and he without a doubt deserves the honor of being this week's book boyfriend.

He's incredibly caring in ways that make my heart flip...

"How are you?" 

He studies my face for a long moment. "Something is wrong. You are sad." 

I try to shake my head to deny it, but I feel my face crumple even as I do. "It's nothing." 

The chill in his icy eyes intensifies, and his hand brushes mine on the counter. "Who has hurt you? Say their name. I will handle it. They will never bother you again." 

For some reason, I find this declaration incredibly sweet. It only makes my eyes stream tears even harder. I swipe them away. "It's n-nothing." My voice has such a childish warble to it. I can't believe I'm crying in front of him. I'm a wreck, though. It's my father, and my guilt, and the fact that I know he's here to dump me. 

"It is not nothing," he says thickly. Through the streams of my tears, I notice his hands lift from mine. A second later, he is coming behind the counter, and he envelops me in a warm delicious hug, pulling my body against him, my face brushing against his coat.

He is completely loyal and devoted to his Daisy...

I glance again at the dance floor, but Daisy has been swallowed up. 

Impatiently, I grip the offensive hand in mine. "If you do not want me to break your wrist with one squeeze of my hand, you will do two things immediately. First, you will remove your hand from my woman's purse. Second, you will remove your hand from this shirt. It is attached to the body that belongs to the owner of the purse."

Then there's the sweetness like this...

"Yes," I say, relieved. "Spasibo." 

He laughs, surprised at my Russian. "Why do you thank me?" 

"For caring enough to care about how I feel." 

He pulls me close again, snuggling with me on the bed. "I do not think you realize, Daisy. You are everything to me."

And he's so unaware of how amazing he is...

It will take time before Nick realizes that he is worthy of my love, but I am patient. How can I not love this man who watches me with such adoration in his eyes? Who worships my body and soul? Who treats me like I am the most precious thing he has ever touched and scarce believes he is allowed to breathe my air?

I freaking LOVE Nikolai. I had a bunch of other sweet things from Last Hit to choose from, that I want to share so bad, but I have to stop somewhere. I swooned all over the place for Nikolai, and... ahh. My heart. My heart, my heart.

Jensen!

Something to Dream On by Diane Rinella

Souls can heal, but how long can they fight the forces that seek to destroy them? If one of those forces is the person who shattered your self-image, and she is determined to take down the one you love, could you still believe that everyone deserves a second chance?

Something to Dream On was such a fantastic book, and the characters were a huge part of that. Jensen was my favorite character of the lot (next to Etta, that is), so it's not a stretch to say that he played an important role in making me love this book. Mostly because I LOVE HIM.

Jensen is so kindhearted. And caring. And not nearly as selfish as he thinks he is. He's the kind of guy who stopped when he saw a dog hurt on the side of the road, got her to a vet, and then adopted her. He's the kind of guy who helps a person with a negative body image lift that self-esteem by loving her. He's the kind of guy who wanted so badly to help a past friend get better. And he gave some of the absolute sweetest moments in this novel.

I love Jensen. 

He says sincere things like this...

Jensen's eyes go to his lap, and his voice softens in a way that implies discomfort. "A person's weight doesn't matter to me. What matters is her heart and how well she takes care of herself." 

I know I am over-sensitive about my body, but was that directed at my weight?  

I look for an indication. Jensen's eyes slowly peer up. His soft features imply that he is sincere.

And then...

"I'm sorry," he quickly adds. "That may have come out wrong. All I was trying to say is that you are a beautiful girl and should never lose sight of that."

He's clearly a gentleman...

Tonight I had a date with a guy who opened doors for me, carried my jacket, watched hockey with me, shared garlic fries with me (even if he did fib and say it was only so we could share garlic breath), and who gave me the sweetest kiss goodnight after walking me to my door. It was one of the most perfect evenings I could imagine.

And there are moments like this that squeeze my heart...

"I thought I was living my nightmare all over again, but an angel in scrubs appeared and gave me hope." 

"I looked such a mess that day," she chokes out. 

My hands cup her cheeks so I can capture her gaze. New tears form because more than ever I see what a gift she was. "You looked like a savior whose only concern wasn't her own. You were the beacon of light that showed me I would be okay."

Plus, SWEETNESS...

Our eyes lock and warmth fills me from within. It slides into my soul like honey, causing me to brazenly confess, "For the first time, I've fallen, and it's deeper than I ever imagined possible. I love you, Lizetta."

I love Jensen, y'all. I do, I do, I really, really do.

Chaol Westfall!

This book has two guys--Chaol and Dorian. Personally, I'm a fan of Chaol all day every day. Dorian definitely has more obvious swoon moments, but Chaol...he's important. He's more subtle, and those little things about him and with him dug inside me and now I just really freaking heart him. 

So let's get to examples. Because those are my favorite part.

When he thought things like this, I felt pretty darn happy...

She was deceitful, cunning, vicious.  

But he couldn't make his feet move. 

With each day, he felt the barriers melting. He let them melt. Because of her genuine laugh, because he caught her one afternoon sleeping with her facein the middle of a book, because he knew that she would win.

And because he did this...

With Nehemia gone, she still had to keep watch, but maybe she could attempt to have a little fun, too. "With you scowling at everyone, no one will ask me to dance." 

Chaol's dark brows rose. "I'm not scowling at everyone." Even as he said it, she spotted him frowning at a passing courtier who looked too long in Celaena's direction.

This. Moment. ...

"Chaol," she said, grabbing his hand and whirling him to face her. She only saw the haunted gleam in his eyes before she threw her arms around his neck and held him tightly. He straightened, but she crushed her body to his, even though it still aggravated her wounds to do so. Then, after a moment, his arms wrapped around her, keeping her close to him, so close that as she shut her eyes and breathed him in, she couldn't tell where he ended and she began.

Because he said...

"Get up."

(I know that one doesn't seem important, but it IS in context. But I can't give you context because I refuse to spoil. So hey--maybe you should read this book! *hint, hint* *wink, wink*)

There are lots more with Chaol that made me love him, but they're within the little things. The parts where he stands closer than necessary and when he has complete faith in her abilities. I really, really, truly heart him, and can't wait to see more of him in the next book.

He's a sexy one...

As Dominic bent down on his haunches to stare at an array of something or other, her gaze wandered helplessly down.  She carefully checked the side of her mouth for drool.

He looked perfect.  And after the day she'd had, she felt an overwhelming urge to head directly into his arms, to have their strength around her, holder her.  Smell his clean, musky scent.  Feel the touch of his hands on her waist and hips as he pulled her closer and the stubble that darkened his jawline as she raised her mouth to his in a welcome.

 

I adore the things he says...

"Really.  So I thought we'd take this opportunity to show him and that fiancee of his that you have no interest in him anymore.  How could you, when you have such a sexy, virile Latino glued to your side?"  She crooked a brow up.  "Virile?  Did you actually just say that?"

His voice was thick with emotion when he finally spoke.  "Whatever you do, Kate, make sure you never settle for anyone who doesn't show you in every breath, every word, every touch that he loves and adores you every day of his life."

I adore how he treats her...

And at the moment, when Dominic chose to let Kate off the hook, she realized she liked him a little more than she probably should.

Don't ask, it's not what it sounds like...

"Okay, you're doing fine, just hold it steady and it will go in easily.  I promise."
"I'm not sure, I feel like it's going out of control.  Look.  I'm shaking."
Dominic could hear the panic in Kate's voice.  But he refused to help her and after another twenty seconds, she drove it home.  And looked down at him, a surprised but satisfied look in her eyes.
"I think I did it."

"Oh, yeah.  I can't see through it at all," he said sarcastically, since he could still see that hourglass shape of hers through any kind of fabric.  She'd discarded the jacket from earlier, leaving him to try to keep his eyes off her curvy assets.

Review...

A quick read, I read this one straight through in an evening.  It's everything I love about Bliss books.

Dominic is a great guy that was hurt in the past.  He's not really over it.  Kate is coming out of a hard break-up but she's determined to get everything she wants.  Partner at the law firm she works at is the number one goal she has.  But for that she need the stable home life a strong relationship gives.  Working with her ex and his new fiancee makes it difficult to stay focused but Kate is driven to succeed.

Then she meet Dominic.  Working on renovations for her house, he see an opportunity for both of them to get what they need and he proposes the pretend relationship.

I adore pretend relationships.  It always puts two people together who don't think they're right for each other.  Then when they are forced to keep up appearance, the sparks fly.  Of course, they resist and that's when the fun begins.

This one just reads well.  Things fit and make sense.  There's lots of secondary characters that I love and hope to see in upcoming books.  It's just enjoyable.  Left me smiling.  I saw a few things coming but so enjoyed the ride.  It's a classic Bliss book.  Sweet and satisfying.  If you love the Bliss line, you'll want this one.  If you love a great romance that has you happy at the end, you'll want this one.

So I've been pretty obsessed with this series since the very end of 2012/very beginning of 2013, and fawning over Caleb is nothing new to me. I've talked about how much I adore him numerous times ALL OVER THE PLACE. My old blog, Bookish, and I even mentioned the sweet during our swoon this week. But now I'm making this post, and I must admit that I'm kind of giddy for yet another excuse to pick out more adorable Caleb stuff to share! So here goes--why Caleb is some serious book boyfriend material...

He's pretty darn funny, right from the beginning...

"Hold on." I walked up to his cousin a few feet away. I looked up into his face, at least half a foot higher than mine, probably more. "I'm really glad I was there." 

"Me, too. Thank you. If you ever need anything; a new pair of rollerblades, a popsicle, a kidney, it's yours."

He's patient and understanding...

(So this one isn't downright swoon-worthy, but I LOVE IT because it's important that he's not rushing her into things, even though that's the way it usually is with Aces. He gives her time to learn more and understand.)

"Well," he looked slightly unsure, "I, uh...you're my significant. I mean, I would never force you to do anything, but this means something to us; to my family. You are so important and the sooner you learn all about what's going on, the sooner you can make the decision if you want anything to do with it or not." 

"I thought I didn't have a choice." 

"Kyle and his big mouth," he muttered. "There are so many things you don't know. So many things that I need to tell you and explain. But if after you hear everything today you want nothing to do with any of it, or with me, I won't stop you from leaving if that's what you're asking."

There is also this super cute moment...

I roused slowly as she shook Caleb's leg as well. He pulled me closer and nuzzled my head when she tried to wake him. I heard them both chuckle. She shook him harder. 

"Caleb, you have to take Maggie home." 

His eyes instantly opened and he aw me, our faces almost touching. He smiled. "Hey. Did you sleep?" he asked.

And I could never forget these sweet, sweet moments that make my heart so happy...

His face split with a grin and he took my mouth forcefully and gratefully. I fisted his shirt front as his arms went around me. I begged that we'd have no interruptions this time as his skin worked like a sponge to extract all my worries and sorrows. It felt like the room took a spike in temperature, I felt too hot, but in a good way. My hand wandered to his hair, shaggy and soft. I let him devour me until I was sure I'd die of not breathing properly. 

I pulled back a little, but he didn't release me, just let us sit so close, our lips almost touched and our foreheads did. His breath was hot and intoxicating.  

"I'm so happy, Maggie. I hope you know that, even with everything that's going on, I'm so happy I found you."

The more I delve into this, the more moments I find that I want to share. Basically, this book is FULL of sweetness and swoons that make my heart flutter. Caleb's sweet, caring, kind, and so much more. For real, if you are a fan of sweet romance, I definitely suggest starting this series and meeting my boy Caleb. I freaking LOVE IT.

One of my goals this year is to finish reading all the series' that I've started.

This is the first one that's getting finished.

In preparation for reading Sweet Reckoning, I have re-read (or listened to the audiobook) of Sweet Evil and Sweet Peril.  So I've been spending time with KAI.

Let me counts the ways...

That guy, the drummer?  Get this.  He's a killer musician, he gets tons of chicks, his dad’s loaded, and if that wasn’t enough, he’s got a friggin’ English accent!

He was smokin' hot.  As in H-O-T-T hott.  I'd never understood until that moment why girls insisted on adding an extra T.  This guy was extra-T worth.

This guy was sexy like it was his job or something.

“What do you want from me Kai,” “For starts,” his voice lowered to sexy dangerous depths. “I want to introduce myself to every freckle on your body.”

"Mmm."  He moaned, having not even touched me yet.  "What?" I asked, muffled by the poofy pillow.  "Oh, nothing.  It's just that you've got quite the nice little--"  I flipped to my side, glaring hard.  He put up his hands.  "Sorry!  A guy can't help but notice.  Truly--best behavior--starting now."

Kissing was far more blissful and intimate than I'd dared to let myself imagine.  His cheeks and chin were rough, but our lips were soft together, careful and slow.  I felt his hunger as his lips moved a bit harder, which I found that I wanted.  His hand went to my waist, outlining my hip.  I could have kissed him all night.  It was the most wonderful feeling in the entire world.

In a moment of boldness I caught Kaidan's pinkie with mine, knowing nobody would be able to see.  I felt his hand go stiff, and then we were suddenly moving to the side.  He led me by the little finger, weaving between people until we ducked down a set of narrow stairs into a dark cellar doorway, hidden by shadows.  Euphoria exploded inside me at our nearness.  His mouth found mine in the dark, fiery and rough.

"Is everything okay?"  I asked, wondering for the first time why he was here.  It took him a moment to answer, as our greedy eyes soaked each other in.  "I just needed to see that you're well.  And it seems you are."

My hands went straight to his hair, fingers tangling in the silky waves.  This was a kiss unlike any we'd experienced so far--possessive and consuming, tapering off into the sweetest, most tender pecks and then back to possessive again.
