Kristen Ashley is one of my favorite authors. Her books are almost always a guaranteed hit for me, and I get in the mood to binge them often--whether it's to re-read or read for the first time (because I'm still catching up on her books...she has so many!). Earlier this month I was on a KA kick and ended up re-reading The Will, so I figured it was high time to give this book a review. Because, y'all. This book is spectacular!

One of the best things about The Will is the characters. They're all great, deep, and fleshed out. I loved them and felt with them and wanted to spend loads of time in their world. I was so invested in their lives and all that went on, both the good and the not so good. Josie and Jake and Conner and Amber and Ethan and the entire cast in Magdalene had 100% of my attention, and I enjoyed every second spent in their world.

Stemming off of that, I also loved the relationships. ALL OF THEM. Not just the romantic one between Josie and Jake--which, by the way, was fantastic. But the relationships within the family warmed my heart. All the love and support, and the growth from Josie being a friend to being part of the unit. Then there was just the general awesomeness of their friends in town--Mickey and Alyssa and Junior and so on. It warmed my heart and I loved it all.

Another great thing about The Will was that it pulled me in right away. This doesn't ALWAYS happen with KA books, because while I love how she writes long it can sometimes mean starting the story takes a little to get really into, but this particular book was one that had me right away. My attention was immediately snared, and then I got tugged further and further into the world with the flip of every page, and it was amazing. In general I'm a fan of Kristen Ashley's writing, but with The Will it just really hit the spot, you know? It gave me all kinds of feelings and had me so caught up in these characters and the stories and it was amazing.

And last, but never ever least, there was of course the romance, which I mentioned briefly above. Josie and Jake had a beautiful love story. It was full of sweet moments and hard moments and sexy moments and important moments and just...loads of moments that I was SO on board for. Jake and Josie are definitely one of my favorite KA couples (and there are MANY to choose from, so that's saying a lot).

Overall, The Will is a spectacular story full of love and moments that warmed my heart. The romance, characters, and their story never fail to pull me in--making this one of my favorite (and most re-read) Kristen Ashley books. If you're looking for adult contemporary romance and want to try some KA, this would be a lovely place to start!

“I have a plan.”

We’re in the library of the suite. Nicholas is behind the desk, his hair falling still damp over his forehead from a recent shower, while James and Tommy stand near the windows.

“Take off your clothes,” I say, dropping a stuffed backpack at my feet.

He stands, giving me a curious, dimple-flashing smile that makes my stomach tingle.

“I like this plan.”

He pulls his shirt over his head—and at the sight of that gorgeous chest and ripped abs, I have to close my mouth to stop the flow of drool.

“Should I send the lads to their room?” he asks.

I toss him a Beastie Boys T-shirt and ripped jeans from the backpack. “They can stay—I’ll get to them in a second.”

Nicholas puts on the outfit, his disguise for the day. I hold up a thick gold chain with a dangling cross, and he dips his head so I can loop it over his neck. Then I squirt gel into my hand and reach up on tiptoes to rub it through his hair—mussing it at the top and slicking the sides.

“Do you know how to drive a motorcycle?”

My eyes drift from Logan to Nicholas. “Trust me.”

Review...

With The Golden Dynasty as my favorite book in the Fantasyland series, Fantastical comes in as a close second. Not close where I'm uncertain which is my favorite, but close enough that they're both VERY darn good and I adore them.

Fantastical is the story of Tor and Cora. Tor's a guy in love who's been burned...by Cora's other world twin. And Cora's a woman who has woken up in a strange and beautiful world...but it shifts and becomes dangerous fast. The plot kicked off pretty quick with this one, and I liked that. There was of course still the customary KA descriptions of everything to paint the world in all its wonder, but it was mixed in well with, you know, and evil witch messing stuff up.

The tension between Tor and Cora is off the charts for the first chunk of the novel. Tor's wary, thanks to Cora's twin in the fantasy world, and Cora's wary because of Tor's attitude. But they're so clearly meant for each other, so they inch their way through it and to each other. Honestly, their transition between being barely kind of civil to one another in the beginning to being one of the best couples ever was lovely. I enjoyed them together immensely. And once they got together, they had still had other crap to deal with---but they did it together and it was cute and have I mentioned that I adore the romance in this book? Because I really, really do.

Though this isn't a short book, it was so easy to fly through and written so well. From the romance to the characters to the world and the plot, KA was on point throughout this entire novel.

Overall, Fantastical is a romantic and magical third installment to the Fantasyland series. Definitely worth rushing into once you finish The Golden Dynasty!

Broken Dove (Fantasyland #4) by Kristen Ashley

Review...

I try and I try to put this series in order from my most favorite to my least, and this book is usually where I become uncertain. I know Wildest Dreams was my least favorite. I also know that The Golden Dynasty will always be my number one. And Midnight Soul has a solid place in fourth. But this book and Fantastical create a muddy middle that I flip-flop on constantly. At this point in time, though, I think I'll put Broken Dove in the third spot. That said, this entire series is solidly fantastic so it's not like there's a significant range of how good these books are---a good portion of my rankings kind of fall into personal preference (though I do think The Golden Dynasty is the strongest novel of the bunch).

But enough of that. I should be focusing on Broken Dove. The fun thing about this one is that instead of magical happenstance bringing the woman into the fantasy world and she has no idea what's going on, Apollo specifically had a witch looking for Ilsa (who ends up being called Maddie in the book, so I'm going to call her that for the rest of the review). When she was found, he crossed worlds to help her and then brought her back with him.

Another interesting thing about Broken Dove is how it explores the parallel worlds concept a little more in depth. Maddie replacing a dead wife---or that was the intent at first, but then she makes her own place in Apollo's world. Apollo's two children, who had existed in the real world with Maddie but had sadly found different fates. I am so glad KA incorporated these elements, as they hadn't been touched on all that much in the other books.

Yet ANOTHER great thing about this novel was that there was a fun inclusion of past characters. This story is Apollo and Maddie's, but Finnie and Cora and Circe and their men have roles too, and I loved seeing them. They band together for a big reason, and watching them work together was absolutely badass.

As for Maddie and Apollo's romance, that's where my opinion of this book can get rocky. Without a doubt, I always wanted them to be together, and I was always happy for them when they were and enjoyed seeing it. But there were certain little things that nagged at me sometimes. Remember, Maddie was originally brought over because Apollo's first wife, the Ilsa of his world, died. While things are in order and happy and I love them by the end of the story (heck, for MOST of the story), there were some points where that fact poked at me in a way that was a wee bit bothersome. That said, Apollo and Maddie were totally endgame. Everything obviously worked out the way it was meant to, and I am happy about that. At the end of the day, I adore this couple so much.

Overall, Broken Dove is a complex and emotional addition to Kristen Ashley's Fantasyland series. The plot and premise were intriguing, the romance was worth falling head over heels over, and the characters were perfect to root for---I genuinely love this story!

Review...

I originally read the first four books in this series a while ago. It was when I first started reading Kristen Ashley's books and I went on a HUGE binge of her stuff--Colorado Mountain, Fantasyland, The Three, The Will, and a few more. Not everything by her, because she has A LOT of books and my binge urge faded before I got to them all. But my point is that I read this series a while ago and I read them really fast and close together so I never got around to reviewing them (or marking them on Goodreads, which I'm in the process of fixing). So with the release of the final book in the Fantasyland series, I took the very much appreciated nudge to re-read these books and finally write a review.

And let me tell you, it was a TREAT. This series is fabulous. As a whole, I can say it's definitely a favorite of mine and I will certainly be re-reading it again (several times over, even) in the future.

But I'm here right now to specifically talk about Wildest Dreams. And, quite honestly, Wildest Dreams is my least favorite book in this series. Which isn't a terrible thing, because this book is still very good. 

As the first Fantasyland novel, Wildest Dreams introduces us to Kristen Ashley's fantasy alternate universe. It's vivid and exciting, and I truly loved spending time inside it. Like I've grown to expect (and adore) from a KA novel, the world was described and built thoroughly. 

And the characters were fully fleshed out, as well. Finnie was headstrong and Frey was fierce and together they made both a lovely couple and also a very frustrating one. All in all, I enjoyed these two together, but I will say that more than one of their arguments got on my nerves. Particularly one involving a certain lady that should have been irrelevant--but Frey refused to leave it that way. 

Still, with that said, the romance was a good, well-written one (even though it wasn't my favorite).

And overall, Wildest Dreams is a strong beginning to an enchanting series that is definitely worth reading. Romance, magic, and more are abound within this story.

Review...

Whereas Wildest Dreams was my least favorite in the Fantasyland series, The Golden Dynasty was my favorite. The two stories are so different but take place in the same world--albeit on completely different sides. This novel introduces an entirely different culture, new characters, and one of my favorite romances of all time.

The Golden Dynasty is one of the books that makes Kristen Ashley a favorite author of mine. The story is crafted to perfectly. The culture is created and described in a way that is both thorough and interesting. Circe's reactions to being thrown into a society with completely different customs than what she's used to are realistic. And the process of Circe and Lahn becoming more familiar with and growing to care for one another is beautiful.

One of my absolute favorite things about this book is the fact that Circe and Lahn start out speaking two different languages. They have this big hurdle of a language barrier that they have to overcome, and I LOVED watching them work through it. Learn each other's words. 

Another thing I love about The Golden Dynasty is the characters--and, more specifically, their growth. First and foremost, Circe is awesome. She wakes up in this new world and is so strong. She fights back. Then she settles and assesses the situation (though she was totally freaked out, but that's understandable). Then she takes it in stride and makes an effort to adapt. Second of all, Lahn, the big, tough warrior, who could be so soft and caring for his wife. He adjusted some of the things he was used to in order to make Circe happy and I not only have so much respect for that, but I LOVE it. He can be such a sweetheart. (And don't even get me started on him with little Isis. Do. Not. Even. *dies*)

The romance between Lahn and Circe is one of my favorites ever. They're both strong but so sweet and they literally make the perfect couple. It takes them a bit to get there (you know, with the language barrier and whatnot) but watching their relationship shift and grow was wonderful. Honestly, they're probably my second favorite KA couple (following Ty and Lexie from Lady Luck, of course).

Overall, with breathtaking romance and well-crafted writing, The Golden Dynasty is a spectacular addition to the Fantasyland series. It's my personal favorite of the five, though they are all so, so good and worth reading. This series as a whole is magnificent. But really, if there is one book of them all that you absolutely should not miss, it's this one.

Kristen Ashley is one of my favorite authors. The romances she writes are phenomenal, and in general her books are just plain addictive. Her Fantasyland in particular has been awesome. The stories are vivid and well-written and full of love. This particular book, the last installment in the Fantasyland series, has been highly anticipated. Honestly, the moment this book landed on my Kindle to review, I dove right in--and what I got in return was a very enjoyable reading experience, just like I can always expect from a KA book.

After gaining a soft spot for Noc that only grew when he showed back up in Broken Dove, I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a book for Noc. He's a straight-up GOOD guy, and he definitely deserved a time to fully shine. And more than that, he deserved his happy ending. I loved getting to know his character better--and DEEPER--and am incredibly pleased with Noc's story.

Before KA told who was going to be paired with Noc, I originally figured it would be the Circe from the Fantasy world. I don't think I was alone on that, right? So when she said it was actually going to be Franka, I was so surprised. But now, after reading the story, I get it. Franka is actually fabulous. Once given the chance to be her own, unrestrained self, she is easy to like. Plus, she was the perfectly suited partner for Noc.

The romance between Noc and Franka pretty much dominated the story, which made my heart happy. They are a beautiful couple, and I adored seeing them become that couple, and then watching the bond between them strengthen. These are two people that clearly deserved happiness. I loved reading their story to getting it.

As always, Kristen Ashley's writing was fantastic and addictive. I read the first three chapters when the cover was revealed and could not WAIT until the rest of the book was in my hands--and then I read the rest of the book the day it landed on my Kindle. The story didn't drag in the slightest, and an efficient job was done wrapping up the stories of the main characters we've grown to love. The main plot is focused on Noc and Franka, of course, but we got delicious glimpses of all of the previous main characters, along with some of their counterparts (which added up to a fun extra element in this novel).

The only slight issue I had with Midnight Soul was the big issue within the plot. You know, the hurdle the characters had to face to truly end up together, well and happy. It was kind of anticlimactic to me. I wasn't too upset about it while reading, because I truly did enjoy the reading experience I had with this book, but when I reached the end I was somewhat surprised something bigger hadn't happened.

But that was the only thing I can count against the story, and there were so many other elements that made up for it tenfold--the romance, the depth of the characters, how incredibly well-done Franka's adjustment from the Fantasy world to the real world was...I could go on.

Overall, Midnight Soul is an enchantingly romantic addition to Kristen Ashley's Fantasyland series. It's a well-written, beautiful story, and I am so happy with how things turned out for these characters I adore. I'll be over here crossing my fingers for a novella for Valentine sometime... (is it wrong to hope?) ...and basking for my love in this entire series. Honestly, if you haven't given this series a go yet, I strongly recommend you do. All five books are fabulous!

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
