If you read my reviews regularly, you know I'm obsessed with this authors Psy/Changeling series.  It makes sense to try out her other books so that's my summer reading project.  I started with this little novella.

Since I know this authors writing and I've read quite a few of her little novellas, I think I can safely say that this one is just a little different than the rest of the series it belongs to.  This one is set with the angels and not with the hunters.  It's got a historical feel to it as these creatures are hundreds of years old and don't really live as the humans do at all.   Living on sides of cliffs and using fire to cook are just a couple of things that gave it that feel for me.  Add the flying to the mix and it felt very different.

I love both Galen and Jessamy.  Galen's nickname is the barbarian.  He is the son of two warriors and was raised to be one as well.  The social graces are not his way.  He's direct and forward in his comments and methods.  When he meets Jessamy, he asks after her and then he courts her.  Nothing holds him back, not her shyness or unease with the disability that she has.  With one crippled wing, Jessamy cannot fly.  She teaches the young ones and is stuck at the refuge since it takes flight to leave that place.  No one courts her.  She has lived this way for hundreds of years.  So shocked would be an understatement of her surprise when Galen begins to do so.  They are adorable together.

I will admit that this is not yet a favorite but I will read the next one to see if the actual world of angels, vampires and hunters draws me in as well as the Psy/Changeling world did.

Review...

Interesting.  The first little novella was set in the Angels' part of this world but this one in the hunters.  I will say that I'm really enjoying the hunter end of things.

Sara is on the verge of becoming the director of the hunters but before she accepts she's on a job with the loner Deacon, slayer of the Guild.  He keeps to himself and doesn't make friends with those he may one day have to kill for going bad.  But the heat between them has them both considering possibilities.  

It's nice to see a women being considered for such an important job in this paranormal world.  She's definitely badass enough.  As she and Deacon hunt down the mystery of who's killing vampires, she shows off some awesome skills.  Deacon notices too.  That boy is one hot hunter.  But by far the best part was when he turned to her to protect him in the gay bar.  Hehe.  

I definitely enjoyed this one more than Angel's Dance.  It was a better taste of this world and I think I'm going to enjoy this series.  An interesting twist on angel's and vampires with great characters and hot chemistry, what's not to love?

Review...

I'm still trying to figure out if this is the end of this story.  It felt so much like the first third of a great book and I'm searching through the series looking for where it may continue!  Because there MUST be a continuation! 

So I am enjoying this world though is it more brutal than I generally enjoy.  I'm still trying to get the feel of the dynamics between angels, vampires, hunters and humans.  But I like it.

Though this installment only frustrated me, I will be reading on.  I wanted more.  I wanted an ending.  But this vampire is still doing his thing which sometimes involves Ashwini hunting him and this hunter is still doing her thing which is taking jobs from the guild.  I was expecting something to change at the end.  

Yes, yes, there is a little story they deal with together and that's the point of the novella BUT I wanted more.  To be fair, I will admit here that novella rarely satisfy me.

Review...

I listened to the audiobook on this one.  The narrator added to the entertainment and that is such a good thing.  

As the first book in a series, this book does a good job of setting up a complex world of vampires and the human world they live in.  It's an interesting twist on the vamp world as they drink the blood of another vampire, not the humans around them.  I found the twist that they drank from the opposite sex quite provocative.  It certainly makes for some sexy times as well as some drama.  But as someone who has always preferred the shifter paranormals to the vampires, I did find the world to my liking.

That being said, I am a shifter girl at heart.  Vampires are just not my thing.  I enjoyed this book and read it pretty quickly but I'm not sure if I want to read on in the series.  There are one or two of the brotherhood who have my interest and if I could safely move to their books, I would for sure do that.  But the complexity of the series makes that problematic.  I may continue.  I may not.

Wrath is the blind king that doesn't want to be king.  He leads the brotherhood instead of his people.  His vision issues don't hold him back in a fight though.  He sees some but not Beth's face clearly.  It was a strange thing really and was a bit odd, almost opportunistic at times.  He's dark and dangerous but truly protective.  I'm not sure how he got his name, or any of the brothers really.  I wanted to know but it wasn't explained.  Though Wrath is emotionally removed he does melt for Beth.  I enjoyed the way their relationship developed.  They can hardly keep their hands off each other from the start but the emotional bond develops slowly.  That was nice.

Beth is interesting.  Raised in foster care, she's strong and independent.  She just isn't interested in any of the guys she meets, though they are interested in her.  It takes Wrath's male body to really ignite hers for the first time.  She resists the draw to him as much as he wants to push her away but as what she really is overtakes her, she accepts quickly.

Really, I'm only giving this one 3 1/2 stars but I rounded up on it.  It's pretty good paranormal though far from a favorite.  Just not sure if I will read more or not.

Review...

Tag.  I so love Tag.  This man loves his mother and will do anything for her.  Not what he seems and making some questionable choices, Tag is dynamic and incredibly sexy.  

When Tag meets Weatherly, it's in a bathtub.  Um...yep.  She's in it and he's coming back to the room he's been staying in.  Needless to say there's some chemistry.  Oh course there is chemistry, this is M. Leighton book!  Chemistry off the charts.  

I enjoyed Weatherly.  She's tying to figure a way out of a mess her father has put her in.  I really don't like her father.  I was glad you stood up to him enough to look for an escape.  She deserves her happiness and her father deserves to go bankrupt. 

Nothing is as it seems.  And the pretense of an engagement is only part of the false tale.  But the reasons for the lyes of omission?  That had me forgiving.  And I wanted the character to forgive as well.  And when they didn't do it soon enough?  I yelled at them.  Yep.  

As you can see, my emotions were involved.  And when I finally turned the last page, my heart was warm and happy.  I just basked in the glow of a wonderful sexy book with characters that I cared about.  

Every book in this series has been sexy with a side of unexpected and no one does that better than this author.  I've loved every word.     

Make time for Tag!  He won't take much time but he'll have you warm and toasty with a nicely satisfied feeling.

I was waiting for a human to be a central character in one of these books and this is the one.  Loved it.

Clay and Talin knew each other as children.  Clay was living with his human mother and trying very hard to pretend he wasn't a leopard.  Talin a human ophan living with others and was being abused.  When Clay found out, his leopard took over.

Clay has made me nervous in the first few books in this series.  Such a loner and on the very edge of going rouge.  But his experience with Talin is the reason.  She was his from a very young age.  And when she was gone, he hurt.  His leopard hurt.  He never got over it.  

When Talin unexpectedly shows back up in his life, it's a huge shock.  These two have a strong relationship that started as children.  But Talin just wants to stay friends.  Clay has other ideas.

As they struggle to help the missing children and deal with their feeling for each other lots of sparks and words flare.  These two are very much like a married couple who knows all of the buttons to push.  I must say, the BEST fight was when Clay shifted to his cat to avoid talking about something he didn't want to.  It was perfect.  Such a guy thing to do.  Hehe.

I loved the heat as Clay tried to convince Talin they were always supposed to be more.  He's patient with her because she has so much pain and abuse in her past.  Tender is the word I would use to describe how he treats her.  And I never thought Clay and tender would be in the same sentence.  I loved seeing this strong closed off male open up to the women he has always loved.

The story in this world continues as Clay and Talin deal with one problem but it effects the overarching story.  I love how this author introduces characters that are needed for the next book and how the story unfolds effortlessly.  I'm always satisfied at the end of book but wanting more.  That's a great skill for an author to have.

If you haven't read this series and you love paranormal, then you need to get this one in the short line.  I do think it could be read standalone because things are explained well BUT why?  This whole series is so dang good.
