A beta in denial

Rhodes DeWitt has always known he was a lost cause. The Blackwater beta embraces the bad boy label with open arms, praying that the girl next door will never know that the one thing he wants is the one girl he can’t have.

A heart that’s breaking

After spending years in love with the boy next door, Larkin Dawes is ready to move on. Her head knows this is for the best. Her heart hasn’t quite gotten the memo.

The storm of the century

Trapped and isolated together as a blizzard rages around them, Rhodes will finally have to decide if he’s going to watch Larkin move on with or without him.

Swoon...

The second I tasted her in that first kiss, she was mine.  She would always be mine. (Kindle location 883)

You need to read this series.  So love Rhodes and Larkin together.  Such a great read.

The problem with secrets is that they’re too easy to keep collecting.

Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing.

With three sisters she loves, a job she (mostly) adores, and a family built up of friends she’s made over the years, Luna figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to.

But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world. Or the most patient.

Sometimes there are things you’re better off keeping to yourself.

"I'm getting you flowers because I want to. Because you said nobody has ever given them to you, and I'm not about to let anyone else do it. This isn't some boss shit, baby. This doesn't have shit to do with Cooper's. This is Luna and Rip. This is me trying to get you to give me a chance. Understand me?"

I think I might be getting in an MZ reread mood, so I couldn't help but share one of my favorite parts of Luna and the Lie this week. Luna and Rip's slow burn never fails to hit the spot. I LOVE them together. So much sweetness and swoon.

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux—only to discover that she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is—and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

#1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave readers reeling.

My back was pressed to his front, and as our bodies moved together, there was a different kind of heat invading me that had nothing to do with embarrassment or self-consciousness and everything to do with the feel of him, the unique scent of him.  The heavy air shifted around us, and when Luc spun me back to him, I knew this was no longer about proving I could still dance.  (Kindle location 1743)

Love this world and I'm so enjoying being back in this world.  Can't wait for The Brightest Night.  Are you ready for it?

He’s the biggest jerk in the galaxy.

I can live with being stuck on the far end of space. I can live with having to spend weeks on an abandoned station in an asteroid belt. Sure, I don’t belong, but I’ve got my book and my eight-legged attack cat with me. I should be fine.

I’m not fine.

My alien host, Jerrok, is a jerk. He’s surly and unpleasant. He hasn’t bathed in years. He’s part cyborg - and all those parts seem to be falling to pieces. He’s the one in charge of this remote station, which means we’re forced to interact. It’s an absolutely miserable situation for both of us…

…until I realize that all his anger and bluster is covering the fact that he’s thoughtful and understanding. He’s protective, too, keeping me safe when the bad guys approach. When I get hurt, he’s the one tenderly caring for my wounds.

Jerrok is also intensely, utterly lonely, just like me.

As time passes, I start to wonder…maybe where I belong isn’t a place…but a person.

"You want me to turn them away? I will."
Sophie blinks at me and then eases into a smile. "You would for me?"
"Yeah," I say gruffly. "You being comfortable is worth way more to me than some credits for scrap."
She moved to my side, crossing the long hall just to stand right in front of me. I stay in place, hoping for one of those feather-light kisses, and I'm not disappointed. She puts her hand on my shoulder, indicating I should lean down, and when I do, she pecks at my cheek. "You're very sweet, you know that?"
"You're the only person that thinks that."
She tosses me a sassy look over her shoulder. "I'm the only one that matters."
That she is.

This book has been one of my favorites this year, and it made me SO HAPPY. It's got a grumpy hero and a slower burn that really hit the spot. Plus, this couple is so sweet!

Lola and the Millionaires: Part Two by Kathryn Moon

Lola is being hunted by her past, stalked with every step she takes. Sheltered with the pack of her dreams, at first it seems like the hardest challenge isn’t even staying safe from Indy. Tensions at work are at a tipping point and after taking the role of management’s spy, Lola’s in the crossfire if anything goes wrong.

As romances between Lola and the pack members are developing left and right, the woman who swore she wanted nothing to do with alpha is turning to them like a bloom to the sun. If only it weren’t just one monstrous alpha that twisted her own thoughts. Lola is quickly realizing that her worst enemy is herself, and it’s like walking the tightrope to find a balance with the pack that gives her strength rather than sends her toppling to the ground.

But Indy won’t be ignored. One way or another, he’s determined to get his hands on her again. Lola needs more than a pack to shield her. She needs to be ready to fight.

"I don't want to add this pressure, and I've been trying this whole time to let you find your own way into this pack. But I don't want you to walk out of this house, even just for a little bit, without knowing that I want you, Lola. More than I've ever wanted anyone in my life." Wes had to duck for us to be on eye level, he was such a giant, but his eyes held mine as he continued. "I've never doubted Rake as my omega, but I know now that was because it leave room for me to fall in love with you, for my world to revolve around you."
These books--Lola and the Millionaires parts 1 & 2--have been some of my favorite books ever. They're definitely going to be on my favorite reads of 2020 list. And they're definitely going to get a lot of re-read time from me. The things this pack does to my heart...SO MUCH SWEETNESS AND I LOVE IT BEYOND WORDS.

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice...

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.

"Mickey, I love you!" I was now yelling.

"And I love you," he ground out. "Since that's the case, I want you to have it all."

I threw up my hands. "I have all I need."

"I want you to have," he planted his hands on his hips and leaned toward me ominously, "it all."

I was re-reading this over the weekend and my heart still flips over Mickey and Amelia. So fun and so sweet.

My eyes drifted shut, reopening when I heard the door open.  Casteel strode out, wearing only those loose cotton pants that hung indecently low on his hips.  I shouldn't look, and I definitely shouldn't stare, but I soaked in the sight of the lean, coiled muscles of his abdomen and the defined lines of his chest and shoulders.  (Kindle location 5724)
I was always a Hawke fan even though I ended up mad at his lies in the last book.  But I learned to understand him and love him in this book.  Not just be he is a gorgeous man but because he has such depth and he loves Poppy.

The 30th book in the Dark / Carpathian series is about Ferro and Elisabeta.

Stolen from her home at a young age and tormented for centuries, Elisabeta Trigovise is scared to show herself to anyone. Even though she has been rescued and is now safe within the Carpathian compound, she has lived in fear for so long she has no idea how to survive without it. She wants to answer the siren call of her lifemate--but the very thought terrifies her.

Before he found Elisabeta, Ferro Arany was an ancient warrior without emotion. Now that his senses have come alive, he knows it will take more than kind words and soft touches to convince the fractured woman that they are partners, not master and prisoner. For now, he will give her his strength until she finds hers, allowing the steady rhythm of his heart to soothe Elisabeta's fragile soul.

But even as she learns to stand on her own, the vampire who kept her captive is desperate to claim her again, threatening the song Elisabeta and Ferro are writing together.

Their relationship is so adorable.  She's a mess and he's so patient with her.  I loved them.

His family is determined to save him, but they have no idea what the demons have unleashed. And when a sorcerer of his strength loses control, there's a chance that no one will survive the fallout.

This is book 6 in the Supernatural Prison series. Recommended 17+ due to language and sexual situations.

Yeah, Louis is a bit possessive.  I like that about the sorcerer.  In his defense, she was just dancing with another guy.  Really did enjoy this one.  The whole series is just great.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown (The Brown Sisters, #2)Talia Hibbert returns with another charming romantic comedy about a young woman who agrees to fake date her friend after a video of him “rescuing” her from their office building goes viral...

Danika Brown knows what she wants: professional success, academic renown, and an occasional roll in the hay to relieve all that career-driven tension. But romance? Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. Romantic partners, whatever their gender, are a distraction at best and a drain at worst. So Dani asks the universe for the perfect friend-with-benefits—someone who knows the score and knows their way around the bedroom.

When brooding security guard Zafir Ansari rescues Dani from a workplace fire drill gone wrong, it’s an obvious sign: PhD student Dani and ex-rugby player Zaf are destined to sleep together. But before she can explain that fact, a video of the heroic rescue goes viral. Now half the internet is shipping #DrRugbae—and Zaf is begging Dani to play along. Turns out, his sports charity for kids could really use the publicity. Lying to help children? Who on earth would refuse?

Dani’s plan is simple: fake a relationship in public, seduce Zaf behind the scenes. The trouble is, grumpy Zaf’s secretly a hopeless romantic—and he’s determined to corrupt Dani’s stone-cold realism. Before long, he’s tackling her fears into the dirt. But the former sports star has issues of his own, and the walls around his heart are as thick as his... um, thighs.

Suddenly, the easy lay Dani dreamed of is more complex than her thesis. Has her wish backfired? Is her focus being tested? Or is the universe just waiting for her to take a hint?

Swoon...

He laughed and dragged her into a hug, which was fabulous, because Zaf was the most huggable person on earth. He was very sweet and very soft and very firm. He held onto you, not enough that you felt suffocated, but more than enough to make it clear you should stay right there. With him. Because he wanted you to.

I love them, I love them, I love them, I LOVE THEM.
